Zumbaron Day @ Adriano Zumbo Pâtissier, The Star

So, I mentioned in my last post that after our little foray at the Pyrmont Farmer's Market last Saturday, Nadi and I decided to head over to Adriano Zumbo's Pâtissier at The Star, since I had never had a Zumbaron (Zumbo Macaron =P) before to which Nadi appeared shocked haha.

But as we approached the place we notcied a crowd milling around, and a moderatley sized line snaking out the door. I got a bit confused because I know for a fact that this pâtissier does not normally have a queue....then realisation dawned on me, and for confirmation i ran over to the window display...

YES! WE HAD STUMBLED UPON ZUMBARON DAY!!! You will not believe how excited we got.

Zumbaron Day is an annual one day macaron-fest where Adriano Zumbo creates around 60 flavours of macarons, some of which of course only feature on this one day of the year.

We went absolutely nuts to say the least. We ran to join the queue, fumbled with the order forms as we excitedly decided which ones we were gonna get. Initially I thought 'meh I'll just get a few, I can always come back to try the rest'. But then as I looked at the amazing one off flavours, I just couldn't resist. I ended up picking out 36 of the 62 flavours on offer (and I got 2 of some of the ones that sounded delish)!!

Yes. I ended up spending over $100 on macarons. Just like that. Was it worth it? HELLS YES!
Actually, altogether Nadi and I spent over $200. I can't believe it.

We were lucky as the line was moving relatively quickly. The pâtissier itself looks really Willy Wonka like with cute like factory-like displays, colourful and cheerful. I really wanna go back for the dessert train (although I've heard mixed reviews - wanna try it for myself). The whole time we were waiting Nadi and I would squeal and revel in our good fortune at coming to the patissier on the perfect day haha.

I was so delirious as we headed off to have a closer look at our macarons. We tried all the 'hot' ones first (i.e. the ones which were fried). We were mind-blown to say the least! We got a couple of standouts like the Hamburger, Fried Chicken and Duck Pancake. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! They all tasted just how they sounded. It was just incredible. We also got a few misses such as the Pork Bun (which was pretty much a normal Pork Bun, no macaron in sight) and the Fried Doughnut (again, pretty much a jam doughnut, no macaron in sight =P).

Clockwise from bottom right - Fried Doughnut, Hamburger, Custard Fritter, Fried Chicken, Pork Bun
Middle - Duck Pancake

Close up of Duck Pancake - AMAZING!!

One of my favs, Fried Chicken!

We decided to consume the rest of our bounty at home. I've attempted to guess all the flavours since they were of course not labelled. I think I'm pretty spot on, but unfortunately they forgot to put in a Sticky Date macaron and instead gave me two Salted Gianduja Caramels.

Row 1: Raspberry Shortcake, Raspberry Shortcake, Pecan Danish, Pear Pistachio & Fennel, Peanut Caramel, Peach Iced Tea, PBJ, PBJ, Passionfruit & Yoghurt, Blackened Vanilla, Salted Butter Caramel, Musk

Row 2: Vanilla Vavoom, Toasted Marshmallow, Palm Sugar & Coconut, Salted Gianduja Caramel, Salted Butter Popcorn, Salted Gianduja Caramel, Rose, Redskin, Redskin

Row 3: Mojito, Maple Syrup Pancake, Lychee, Gin & Tonic, Fingerbun, Fig Red Wine & Burnt Honey, Cola, Carrot Cake, Bubblegum, Bubblegum, Blueberry Lavender, Beer, Olive Oil & Truffle

I really liked these macarons.
They all looked amazing, tasted amazing and technically speaking I think they were spot on. I think I like them a bit better than those from Cafe Cre Asion, firstly because they're cheaper at $2.50 a pop, secondly they are slightly bigger, and thirdly because the flavours Zumbo carries are more down my alleyway.

Some standouts were the Bubblegum (had popping candy in the middle!), Musk (tasted just like a musk stick), Passionfruit and Yoghurt (LOVE the combo), PB&J (for obvious reasons =P), Redskin (I had one, and immediately ate the 2nd one I got cos it was SO GOOD!). Raspberry Shortcake, Fried Chicken (i'm still mind f**ked), Hamburger (defs the cutest) and Toasted Marshmallow.

Some of the more interesting and surprising ones included Beer, Blackened Vanilla, Peach Iced Tea and Vanilla Vavoom.

Overall, i'm still delirious over the fact that I finaly got to attend the famous Zumbaron Day! I STILL can't believe our good luck! It's like it was meant to be! It really topped off our trip into the city that rainy Saturday morning =).
